Adding a partner to a 491 visa.
If your partner holds a Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa, you may be eligible to join them in Australia by applying as a subsequent entrant. This allows you to live, work, and study with them in a designated regional area of Australia.
To qualify, you must be their spouse or de facto partner and meet the Department of Home Affairs’ requirements for genuine relationships, health, and character.
You can apply from inside or outside Australia, and if granted, you’ll receive a 491 visa with the same expiry date as your partner’s. As a secondary visa holder, you’ll also be subject to the same regional conditions and pathway to permanent residency under the 191 visa.
Important: If your partner claimed points for being single in their original Expression of Interest (EOI) or did not declare your relationship when they applied, it’s critical that we carefully review your relationship timeline and evidence.
