Purpose: To undertake occupational training in Australia that contributes to skill development, registration, or professional capacity building.

Visa Duration: Valid for up to 2 years depending on the training plan.

Pathway Type: This is a temporary visa with no direct PR pathway, but it may contribute to future skilled visa eligibility.

Training Categories

Your occupational training must fall under one of the following three categories:

Registration/Licensing Training
- Workplace-based training to meet mandatory licensing or registration requirements in Australia or your home country.
Skills Enhancement Training
- Structured workplace training to improve skills in an eligible occupation on the STSOL, ROL, or MLTSSL.
- You must have worked at least 12 months in the nominated occupation within the last 24 months.
Capacity Building Overseas
- Workplace training linked to a foreign qualification (up to 6 months)
- Training supported by a home or Australian government
- Management or professional development aligned with your overseas employer’s business

Training must be structured, conducted at least 30 hours per week, with a minimum of 70% in the workplace.

Sponsor Requirements

The organisation providing the training must:

Be lawfully operating in Australia, or be a government agency (Australian or foreign)
Provide the occupational training directly (unless exempt)
Have no adverse information known, including breaches of immigration, taxation, or workplace laws

Sponsors can include employers, superyacht operators, or government institutions. Accreditation is not mandatory, but sponsor obligations apply.

Visa Applicant Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

Be 18 years or older (unless exceptional circumstances apply)
Have the skills, qualifications, or experience required for the training
Have functional English, demonstrated by:
- Holding a valid passport from the UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or Ireland, OR
- IELTS (4.5), PTE (30), CAE (147), or equivalent score, completed within the past 12 months, OR
- Completing relevant study conducted in English (various options apply)
- Positive AMEP English language assessment
Intend to stay temporarily for the training
Have sufficient financial support for your stay
Arrange adequate health insurance for your visa period
