The 482 Skills in Demand (SID) visa enables skilled workers to fill critical labour shortages in the Australian workforce. With three targeted streams, the 482 visa offers flexibility based on the role, salary, and industry need. These streams include:

Employer Eligibility

Employers must be:

Actively and lawfully operating in Australia, or
Operating overseas and seeking to establish or fulfil a contract in Australia.

They must not be associated with any adverse information (e.g. breaches of immigration, industrial relations, taxation laws, insolvency, or provision of false documentation).

Accreditation: Some employers may apply for accredited status, allowing for priority processing of 482 nominations and visas.

Nomination Criteria

Nominated positions must:

Be full-time and genuine.
Be within the sponsor’s business or a closely associated entity.
Offer a salary:
- At least $79,423/year (Core Skills Stream), or
- At least $146,576/year (Specialist Skills Stream), and
- Match or exceed the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR).

Labour Market Testing (LMT): Sponsors must advertise the role within the last 4 months for a minimum of 4 weeks, unless an International Trade Obligation applies. Book a consultation to understand the specific LMT requirements.

Core Skills Stream

For skilled workers in occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).

Key Features:

Stay for up to 4 years (5 for Hong Kong passport holders).
Pathway to Permanent Residency via subclass 186.

Eligibility:

Nominated by an approved employer.
1 year of full-time experience in the past 5 years in the nominated occupation or a related field.
Meet skills and qualifications for the role.
English Proficiency:
- IELTS: 5 in each band
- PTE: 36 in each band
- TOEFL iBT: Overall 35 (Listening/Reading: 4, Writing/Speaking: 14)
- OET: B in each component
- CAE: 154 in each band

Tests must be completed within the past 3 years.

Exemptions: You may be exempt from English testing if:

You hold a valid passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Ireland; OR
You’ve completed 5 years of full-time study in English.
Other exemptions apply but are less common.

Additional Requirements:

Meet health and character requirements.
Maintain adequate health insurance.
Meet any occupational licensing or registration requirements.

Specialist Skills Stream

Designed for high-income, highly skilled professionals.

Key Features:

Must meet the Specialist Skills Income Threshold ($135,000+).
Duration: Up to 4 years.
PR pathway via subclass 186.

Eligibility:

Same English, health, character, insurance, and experience criteria as Core Skills.
Not available to ANZSCO Major Groups 3, 7, or 8.
Skills assessment may be required depending on role and background.

Labour Agreement Stream

For skilled workers sponsored under a Labour Agreement between the employer and the Australian Government.

Key Features:

Eligibility, English, and skills criteria vary by agreement.
PR pathway available if included in agreement terms.

Eligibility:

In most cases, 1 year of relevant full-time work experience in the last 5 years.

Step 3: Skills Assessment (if applicable)
Where a mandatory skills assessment is required, we will prepare and lodge your skills assessment, including a personalised checklist and document guidance. Only assessments from authorised bodies are accepted.

Step 4: Sponsorship Application
If your employer is not already an approved sponsor, we lodge this application with the Department. An approved sponsorship is valid for 5 years.

Step 5: Nomination Application
We lodge the nomination application, confirming the role meets LMT, salary, AMSR, and employment condition requirements.

Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) Levy:

< $10M turnover: $1,200/year of proposed stay
≥ $10M turnover: $1,800/year of proposed stay

Must be paid upfront with the nomination.

Step 6: Visa Application
